Are infrared heat applications good for the skin? - Difference between infrared light and infrared heat

When it comes to infrared technology, there is often confusion about the terms infrared heat and infrared light. Depending on the wavelength of the radiation, they have different properties and applications. Infrared light refers to the electromagnetic radiation in the infrared region of the light spectrum and is used, for example, in medicine and cosmetics for cell regeneration, while infrared heat refers to the warmth generated by infrared radiation. This type of heat is often used in heaters, infrared radiators and infrared cabins. This radiation does not heat the air, but directly heats the objects and people in the room.

Broad spectrum of infrared radiation

Heat radiation sources always emit a broad spectrum of electromagnetic radiation of different wavelengths. The range of this spectrum and the maximum wavelength depends solely on the surface temperature of the radiation source. (With the exception of special lasers and diodes, there are therefore no pure infrared A or infrared B emitters. Infrared radiation is a proven means of supplying heat to the body without contact. The infrared radiation itself, whether A, B or C, is converted into heat in the skin and does not penetrate into deeper tissue.

Infrared treatments to strengthen the immune system and nourish the skin

Warming applications with infrared have a particularly positive effect on the care of the skin and thus on its immune system. Low-temperature infrared cabins have also been shown to have an immunoregulatory effect.

This can promote blood circulation, stimulate collagen production and thus improve the skin's appearance and elasticity.

Good infrared cabins keep skin exposure low! As the skin's ability to absorb heat - even in healthy people - only increases with increasing blood circulation, low irradiance levels (approx. 40 mW/qcm) should be selected at the start of an application. Starting from this value, the intensity can then be increased step by step.

Mild infrared heat applications can also be helpful for skin conditions such as neurodermatitis and psoriasis (apart from during acute flare-ups).

Summary

In summary, it should be mentioned that in addition to the relaxing effect on the body and psyche, infrared heat applications also have a positive and supportive effect on blood circulation, tissue supply and cell metabolism and thus support the skin with a certain anti-aging effect.
